Obama's Interview on Arab Television

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Echoing his sentiments in his Inauguration and to be the first President to do so , President Obama mentioned the Muslims and Jews in his speech. That was on day 1. Now in just 7 days, he is interviewed on Al Arabia TV in his first formal interview as President in his address to the Muslim and Arab World. In a bold move, he participated in the exclusive interview . As he  states, "In all my travels throughout the Muslim world, what I've come to understand is that regardless of your faith – and America is a country of Muslims, Jews, Christians, non-believers – regardless of your faith, people all have certain common hopes and common dreams,"
President Obama is now extending his hand the the Middle East, and wants to help both Israel and Palestine learn to live in peace with each other.  He fell short on stating what he believed what either side needed to do, but he did state that his intention would be to continue to support Israel and help countries within the Arab region learn to live in harmony with each other.
In an apparent lesson to the American people, Barack Obama truly became 'the mediator' for people in the Middle East. I would bet that our new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton learned a little more about her boss Mr. Obama, and now really has a clear understanding of his intentions for the middle east.

Most political conservatives are initially alarmed by this move. If I may be so bold in making a parallel....... Would it be a bad move for the pope to go into the arab media to promote christianity? Id say not. So why is that different than the leader of the free world promoting our interests the same way? If this sets a clear message of our intents to the arab world, then this is a great move to preventing radicalism through direct contact. This is not a weak move. Gone are the days of trying to use isolation as a form of leverage that clearly hasnt worked.
