Arizona Immigration Law blocked by Judge Bolton At the Last Minute

Thursday, July 29, 2010

President Obama highly criticized the Arizona immigration law back when Governer Jan Brewer of Arizona signed the nations's toughest bill on illegal immigration in April of this year. BUt since then there has been high criticizm for what the law meant for thousands of people in Arizona, most of them illegal immigrants. President Obama claimed that the law threatened "to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and our communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe.”

The law, which proponents and critics alike said was the broadest and strictest immigration measure in generations, would make the failure to carry immigration documents a crime and give the police broad power to detain anyone suspected of being in the country illegally. Opponents have called it an open invitation for harassment and discrimination against Hispanics regardless of their citizenship status.

The political debate leading up to Ms. Brewer’s decision, and Mr. Obama’s criticism of the law — presidents very rarely weigh in on state legislation — underscored the power of the immigration debate in states along the Mexican border. It presaged the polarizing arguments that await the president and Congress as they take up the issue nationally.

The law was to take effect 90 days after the legislative session ends, meaning by August. Court challenges were made since the Governer signed the bill in April. It requires police officers, “when practicable,” to detain people they reasonably suspect are in the country without authorization and to verify their status with federal officials, unless doing so would hinder an investigation or emergency medical treatment.

It also makes it a state crime — a misdemeanor — to not carry immigration papers. In addition, it allows people to sue local government or agencies if they believe federal or state immigration law is not being enforced.

With all of the work by the Arizona Governor to put the law into effect, a federal judge stepped into the fight just hours before the law was to take effect, and blocked the heart of the measure, and also defused a confrontation that was brewing between police and thousands of activists that had been building for months. But the battle is not over, and most likely will end up in the Supreme Court. Judge Bolton, who stopped the measure from becoming law for now, claims that her ruling backed by the federal government has a good chance of succeeding. The President claims that the law now only put several thousand Mexicans in danger, it also put several Americans in danger, not to mention how the law would have hurt U.S. Mexican relations.

For now, in her preliminary injunction, Bolton delayed provisions that required immigrants to carry their papers and banned illegal immigrants from soliciting employment in public places – a move aimed at day laborers.

The judge also blocked officers from making warrantless arrests of suspected illegal immigrants for crimes that can lead to deportation. Brewer spokesman Paul Senseman said the state will appeal Bolton's ruling to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Thursday, asking the appellate court to lift the injunction and allow the blocked provisions to take effect. The appeal will ask the 9th Circuit to act quickly, Senseman said.

Whatever way that court rules, Bolton will eventually hold a trial and issue a final ruling.

Wednesday's decision was seen as a defeat for Brewer, who is running for another term in November and has seen her political fortunes rise because of the law's popularity among conservatives.

But in the end, the realization exists that not just one governor from one state should try and enact a law that should be instituted on the Federal level. Most people accross the country agree that a more nationalized solution must be met, and that one state governor cannot try to solve what is considered a national issue with the bordering country of Mexico.

Jan Brewer is running for re-election this year, and chances of her re-election may be slim  because of the problems caused by her signing a bill that had the makings to hurt Americans, cause riots, and disturb families in her state.

Selling books Online - Recoup your money

Friday, July 23, 2010

How important is it to manage money these days? How important is it to purchase books for school?
If the answer is 'very important', then you surely know how hard it may be to manage money with todays cost of living, and taking that in consideration, it then must also be important when you have a need to spend money to purchase books. That may be an obvious statement, but how about if you are done with the book, and all that is left to do is to store it on a shelf? Actually, that statement is incorrect, because you have another option which is to sell used books if you care to.
You can sell them online for a variety of reasons, but the two main reasons wanting to do so would be to make your title available to many prospective buyers, and then also to recoup most of your funds that were originally spend on the book. So actually a book that you may think costed you a fortune, can now be written off in some cases as a profit. You can either get almost what you paid for the book, or even make more than you spent on it, mainly because it may be a title that noone has.
The method online to sell back books is fairly easy and inexpensive, and can even be a free in some cases. If you print a prepaid shipping label you acquire online, then you may not have to pay for ANY shipping. There is no set time to buy or sell books with this service.

Elena Kagan on her way to become a Supreme Court Justice

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

The fight within the Senate Judiciary Committee came to a head on Tuesday when Solicitor General Elena Kagan was approved of the nomination to become the nation's fourth female Supreme Court justice. As was expected, the support for her nomination ran right between party lines, as the Republicans claimed that she had no experience as a judge and therefore should not be nominated, whereas the Democrats claimed that she was a strong legal thinker. Republicans also claimed that she was unfit to be a Supreme Court justice because of her political opinions. What seemed to be acknowledged on both sides was that the longer the hearings went on, the more uncleamr answers would surface about her judicial philosophy. This was frustrating and played a big part in why members gave up and nominated her. The straw to break the camels back seemed to appear when Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican of South Carolina, decided to break away from the partisan GOP vote in favor of her nomination. He also happened to be the sole vote in favor of new Justice Sonia Sotomayor's nomination last year. President Obama now will have become successful in choosing two Supreme Court justices that will have made it to the bench.

Unemployed Market Growing because People Refuse to Look for Work

Saturday, July 3, 2010

An alarming fact, 1.21 million people want to work but openly admit that they are not looking because of the weak labor market. To me, that is unbelievable. How long do these people believe that benefits will be coming there way? At the present time, there are 7.9 million jobs that have been lost. People are finding themselves in what they consider a hopeless situation. There just are not enough jobs out there for everyone looking. Still, there have been other people that have been out there looking for the past year, and nothing coming their way. Many people are looking to change professions, because in their regular line of work, there is no work. Presently the unemployment rate is 9.5% and is expected to hover around 10% through early next year.
Manufacturing and construction jobs seem to be hardest hit, and the workers in these fields seem to be having a hard time adjusting their skills to point to other professions. The longer they are out of work, the harder it will be to attain work.
One alarming reason why people are not looking for work any longer is because their unemployment benefits are expiring. That should be a reason to look harder, but instead these unemployed people feel that since they do not have to qualify for benefits by looking for a job any longer, that they could stop looking. Some of these people feel that eventually luck will fall their way. Unfortunately, survival is not about luck these days. Success and happiness come to those who seek it, not to those who hold out their hands and pray for something good to happen. People must take control of their lives and actively attain work, but unfortunately, there is a growing number of unemployed people who seem to think otherwise.

Medicine Used for Personal Hygiene at Home

Medical care in the Obama Administration obviously has been a top priority issue during his first and 2nd year as President. He has gone on a limb for the American people and has passed a health reform bill that will help everyone attain heath care insurance. It is also important to know products that are used at home to attain good health, products that you can use on a daily basis and not have a need to attain it with health insurance.
Whereever you look, medicine used for good facial care for example usually has one product at the top of the list. ProNexin is undoubtely the best acne medicine available on the market today. It comes with a very stong guarantee. What is especailly great about the product is that it contains over two dozen all-natural ingredients. It is one of a select few products that actually address acne and its causes. To receive such a high rating, the product must pass a 6 point criteria, and then is rated accordingly. It is important to use highly rated products at home that are safe to use and are rated amongst the best.

General Petraeus CONFIRMED - New General in Afghanistan and Iraq

Friday, July 2, 2010

In an unanimous vote, the House and Senate confirmed General Petraeus to become the acting general in the Mideast War conflicts. Yes, the vote was unanimous. That means that every Senator, Democratic and Republican, agreed that General Petraeus was the right person for the job. He replaces General Stanley McChrystal as the commanding officer in the war. He takes command of the U.S. occupational forces in Afghanistan, along with other troops scattered all throughout the continent. It's been nine years now since the twin towers crumbled because of a terrorist attack by Osama bin Laden and his mercenaries. The United States is tired of this war, but most everyone acknowledges that the war must go on until the goal has been succeeded. If not, the last 9 years would have been in vain. So what does this mean? President Obama claims that his goal is to remove the troops from Afghanistan and Iraq sometime in 2011. That may be a goal that will be hard to achieve, but nevertheless, the plan sends a clear signal to the governments of Afghanistan and Iraq that they must learn how to curtail the terrorist activities in their own countries very soon.
On the home front, the Democrats are obviously always behind the President. On the other front, the Republicans are  not on board with the President in regards to his planning to remove U.S. troops in 2011. It is my belief that the President will not leave the country prematurely regardless of what the Republican leadership claims. If the President was to do that, it most likely would be political suicide. The Republican President George Bush pushed the United States into the Middle East war. Now he gets to sit back and watch President Obama struggle with the war on terrorism that he (George Bush) obviously started.
In the meantime it looks as if the war in Afghanistan and Iraq did not miss a beat.

Maintenance Insurance for your Mobile Vehicle

What happens to your mobile vehicle when the manufacturers warranty runs out especially when you need to have repairs done? One obvious thing is that you would have to now pay for a service that would have normally been covered if your vehicle was still under warranty. This can be the situation with just about anything, ranging from RV's, cars and trucks.
Now for example, you can purchase and extended service plan that will cover maintenance to cover your trailer or rv repairs.. There are some qualifications to acquire the service. First your vehicle can be up to 12 years old, and have no more than 80,000 miles on it to qualify. Imagine being able to acquire maintenance coverage on vehicles worth up to $1 million dollars for new vehicles, and up to $700,000 for used vehicles.  If you feel you need the maintenence coverage on your vehicle after the manufactures warranty, then this type of coverage may be for you.
