Unemployed Market Growing because People Refuse to Look for Work

Saturday, July 3, 2010

An alarming fact, 1.21 million people want to work but openly admit that they are not looking because of the weak labor market. To me, that is unbelievable. How long do these people believe that benefits will be coming there way? At the present time, there are 7.9 million jobs that have been lost. People are finding themselves in what they consider a hopeless situation. There just are not enough jobs out there for everyone looking. Still, there have been other people that have been out there looking for the past year, and nothing coming their way. Many people are looking to change professions, because in their regular line of work, there is no work. Presently the unemployment rate is 9.5% and is expected to hover around 10% through early next year.
Manufacturing and construction jobs seem to be hardest hit, and the workers in these fields seem to be having a hard time adjusting their skills to point to other professions. The longer they are out of work, the harder it will be to attain work.
One alarming reason why people are not looking for work any longer is because their unemployment benefits are expiring. That should be a reason to look harder, but instead these unemployed people feel that since they do not have to qualify for benefits by looking for a job any longer, that they could stop looking. Some of these people feel that eventually luck will fall their way. Unfortunately, survival is not about luck these days. Success and happiness come to those who seek it, not to those who hold out their hands and pray for something good to happen. People must take control of their lives and actively attain work, but unfortunately, there is a growing number of unemployed people who seem to think otherwise.
