Obama agenda: Staying the course

Sunday, August 28, 2011

By NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro

“Though more Americans see the economy in bad shape than did at the beginning of the summer, their views of whether to re-elect President Barack Obama have barely changed - and a majority blame George Bush for the problems, a new [AP/GFK] poll says,” Politico writes.
“Despite the perception of a weakening recovery, there has been no significant change in the number of people who say he deserves re-election: 47 percent as opposed to 48 percent two months ago. That's a statistical dead heat with those who favor a change in the White House,” AP writes. “And more Americans still blame former President George W. Bush rather than Obama for the economic distress. Some 31 percent put the bulk of the blame on Obama, while 51 percent point to his Republican predecessor. … Obama also fares better than Congress in the blame department. Some 44 percent put "a lot" or "most" of the blame on Republicans while 36 percent point to congressional Democrats.”
More: “More than 6 in 10 — 63 percent — disapprove of Obama's handling of the economy. Nearly half, or 48 percent, "strongly" disapproved. Approval of his economic performance now stands at just 36 percent, his worst approval rating on the issue in AP-GfK polling.”
“When President Obama took his first trip to Martha’s Vineyard after taking office, the excitement among locals here was palpable, from the signs of support strung across shop windows and front porches to a full-page newspaper ad taken out by 125 Vineyard grandmothers in support of his health care plan,” the Boston Globe reports. “This week, with the jobless rate stuck above 9 percent and the president’s nationwide approval rating at its lowest level, the Vineyard’s broad allegiance shows cracks, leaving some islanders with a more textured, even tormented feeling about the president.”
“Following days of intense criticism from conservatives, Vice President Joe Biden is backing down from what was interpreted as a strange, if unintended, defense of China's one-child policy,” the New York Daily News reports. “The White House issued a clarification late Tuesday, insisting Biden believes such practices are ‘repugnant.’ Biden spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff told AFP in a statement that, ‘The Obama administration strongly opposes all aspects of China's coercive birth-limitation policies, including forced abortion and sterilization,’ adding Biden ‘pointed out, in China, that the policy is, as a practical matter, unsustainable. He was arguing against the one-child policy to a Chinese audience.’”

Obama continues to Receive Criticism from Politicians

Now with 3 million people without power, suddenly interest in the political race has taken a back seat. The brink of disaster is sometimes what it has to take to get people to start thinking together, and make people realize that the only thing that really stands between the politicians are their ignorance and determination to push their own agendas, and in the end when something like Irene comes to visit, we all realize that we are all "ponds on a chess board" when it comes to hurricanes and tornadoes.
Yes, the politicians in Washington will be putting blame on each ather, and undoubtedly the Repubicans will be pointing the finger at President Obama for his actions during the Hurricane. Many have already stated that he would rather take vacation than deal with the problems than Washington. But if you would ask any of these same Conservatives about their beloved George W. Bush and vacation, they wouldn't have much to say. But the fact is that George Bush took more vacation than Barack Obama would ever dream of taking. In matter in fact George W. Bush performed his job while on vacation at his ranch in Texas. He secured his ranch with a "state of the art" security system, and in a sense was on perpetual vacation in Texas. Now that he is not the present President, he still benefits from the security system.
As many who may read this blog, I am very pro-Obama and despise the many actions that our previous President George W. Bush has done. But I might add that President George W. Bush was very highly criticized on how he worked with FEMA in the city of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina in his early years as president.
Now President Obama is at the center of attention in the midst of Hurricane Irene, and Federal response to the devestating effects of Hurricane Irene will now count for many political votes he receives or looses during the elections in 2012. But one thing you know for sure, is that the Republicans will be coming out from hiding under the rocks from Hurricane Irene, and begin to criticize the President for what he was doing during the storm, and how he handled it. For them, the President can do no right. This is unfortunate, because a government such as this who can't seem to agree on anything is a government consisting of poison that will infect the entire U.S. population with hate and disgust.
With all the turmoil in Washington, whether it be from an earthquake or hurricane, President Obama stands a very good chance for re-election in 2012, as people will wake up and see that President Obama is doing what is best for the people and he will be the only real clear choice in 2012 to begin his second term as President. When the President takes his family on vacation to Martha's Vinyard or anywhere else for that matter, you can be best assured that it is well deserved. When he is criticized by the politicians, you know that they have no interest in creating policy, rather than to work on defaming the President and trick the American people that their support for a Republican president is most important.

Obama " Going to Be a Long 72 Hours"

(CNN) - President Barack Obama toured FEMA headquarters in Washington Saturday as Hurricane Irene continued up the east coast of the U.S.
On a conference call with emergency officials, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and FEMA administrator Craig Fugate, while at the command center, Obama warned of the worsening conditions, saying “it’s going to be a long 72 hours.”

“Obviously a lot of families are going to be affected. What we heard, the biggest concern I’m having right now has to do with flooding and power, sounds like that’s going to be an enormous strain on a lot of states,” Obama said. “That may take days, even longer in some cases depending on what the storm does.”
Obama, who thanked officials at the National Response Coordination Center, has declared states of emergencies in nine eastern states.
Irene made landfall early Saturday morning and has already left 550,000 North Carolina and Virginia power customers in the dark.

Are Taxing the Rich the Only way to Balance the Budget?

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

When it comes to taxes, that may be the only way to be able to balance the budget. Most Americans believe that the richest of people should pay more. In matter in fact, the upper 1% of the wealthiest Americans have enough money and more to spare to balance the budget on their own.
I'm not saying that only the wealthiest of people should pay more taxes, but most people don't even have the slightest idea on how much money some people have. Some of these very rich never worked a day in their happy lives for a single dollar that they claim. Others worked hard to get where they are today. These same people believe that others who are not so fortunate do not deserve to be as happy as they are, because they haven't worked for the money. Again, they may be correct, but by being taxed on a small percentage of their huge fortunes would not even effect them. The richest Americans are now experiencing lower taxes, even when some Republicans believe that some of the rich should be taxed. But the party as a whole block the idea that the rich should be taxed.
The bottom line, unless the U.S. Congress can find another way to balance the budget, taxes may be the only way. If the Conservatives are so hell bent on not raising taxes on the rich, then why don't they come up with another idea to help balance the budget?

Michelle Bachmann Continues to Criticize the President - calls him a possible 'dictator'

How long can you ignore the ignorance of a political candidate that originally voted against raising the debt ceiling, even if you knew that it had to be raised so that the government could continue to run. If she became president, would she use her own money to pay for the U.S. debt if she never planned to support a debt limit increase? To be honest, I don't like the idea of the country continuing to borrow money that they haven't figured out how to pay back, but that does not validate the idea that nothing should be done, and just think that the problem will cure itself. President Obama may have had little option if the stalemated U.S. Congress did not vote for a debt limit increase, but to  use the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution as justification to raise the debt ceiling himself as a last measure.
Still, Michelle Bachmann lashes out at President Obama, calling him a 'dictator' if he uses the 14th amendment. How can you understand such reasoning. Michelle Bachmann would rather ignore the power of the Constitution, and would rather shut down the government, and would personally allow the 1st U.S. default in modern time.
Michelle Bachmann claims that the president "would be making the spending decision.. Clearly that's unconstitutional." So what is so unconstitutional about it since the 14th amendment to the Constitution claims that the President has that power.
She also claims that "What President Obama has failed to do is properly understand the issues. On every measure his president has failed." She appears to be so far to the right, that even members of her own Republican party seem to be moving away from supporting her.
Presently, Rick Perry and Mitt Romney are way ahead in the Republican polls, and both contenders for the Republican nomination continue to distance themselves from her.
At one time, I originally thought that Michelle Bachmann would have been a viable candidate for the Republican party. I can no longer believe that she has the ability to come back, and I will outwardly state at this time that she will be the next candidate to drop out of the race.
She is a criticizer of her opponents, or should I say maybe she is not. Instead of criticizing others to run against her in her own party, she has been concentrating on criticism of President Obama. At the present time, her timing is way off. If she was close to gain the nomination to run against President Obama, then maybe she should then concentrate on him. But instead of concentrating on her own issues that would help her gain the nomination, she continues to criticize.
Michelle Bachmann, it is unfortunate for your party that you apparently do not know how to even run on the Republican ticket. Just because you won Iowa in the straw poll a few weeks ago, how much money would you like to bet that you WILL NOT WIN IOWA when it actually counts in a few months. Also notice that your Republican opponents will have no problem criticizing you in the future, or maybe they may think that talking about you is just not worth it.

President Obama on Tour - Jobs bill that Republicans need to Vote On

Thursday, August 18, 2011

President Obama started his three day tour in Iowa and ended up today in Illinois. He acknowledges that the economic recovery is going slower than he had expected, but blames it party on Congress that is failing to act in Washington, and the excessive partisan political system that now exists.
When he says that Washington is failing, he means it. Still the Republican house is expected to not do anymore than they have already, and that would be 'nothing'. As the President acknowledges that we have gone through tougher times, and that the politicians in Washington need to focus for about the next generation than on the next election, which is where many conservative lawmakers are thinking about already.
How can they show a desire to pass laws in Washington in a bi-partisan way? For one thing, Congress can extend the current payroll tax cut, pass some trade bills that keep stalling in Congress, boost infrastructure spending and enact patent reform. President Obama wants the Republicans to accept a more balanced approach for a long term deficit reduction plan while embracing spending cuts and revenue increases.
But what I would like them to do verses what they actually will do is a major concern. Instead of passing bills and doing their jobs in Congress, they will now concentrate in doing everything possible in trying to evict President Obama from the White House.
The Conservative thought process is in disarray, as the basic principles of the Conservative party just will no longer work in these days and these ages. But they will profess their plan for a better government, but the U.S. will now outline a large jobs bill, which is what this election is now all about.

What is Candidate Rick Perry All About?

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

James --

Rick Perry is on the presidential campaign trail touting his record of giving a leg up to corporate special interests as some kind of "Texas miracle" that has created jobs.

In Texas, of course, we know this so-called "miracle" is a tall tale. For most middle-class families, it feels like we're working harder and harder under Gov. Perry, but falling further behind. We have the highest percentage of hourly workers earning minimum wage or less -- and our median household income has fallen to 47th in the nation.

So while the media continues its honeymoon with Rick Perry, those of us who have actually experienced his failed policies firsthand have a personal responsibility to make sure the rest of the country knows the truth about his record.

Let's send a signal by giving Gov. Perry a special welcome to the presidential race. Join fellow Texans in making a $5 donation to the Obama campaign today.

We've seen this movie before. A Republican governor from Texas decides to run for president on a record of "results."

If we don't stop him, we'll see an ending that's all too familiar: corporations make huge profits while good jobs get shipped overseas, and middle-class families are left hoping for a miracle that never comes.

It's up to us to introduce folks around the country to the Rick Perry we know in Texas: the man who supports the Tea Party plan to end Medicare as we know it, who would cut K-12 education spending and important investments in research and jobs, and who's so far out of the mainstream on climate change that he actually believes the globe is cooling.

Perry's going to try to outrun the truth in this race for president -- so those of us who know who he is and what he stands for need to make sure it catches up to him as fast as it can.

We can't stand by while Rick Perry tries to do to America what he's done to Texas -- help by donating $5 or more to President Obama's campaign today:

Caring for your Swimming Pool - Like the White House Pool

Monday, August 15, 2011

The White House swimming pool became a reality in 1943, when President Franklin Roosevelt had one built inside the gallery between the White House and the West Wing were the old laundry rooms used to be. It had some of the latest pool innovations, such as underwater lighting. He used the pool several times a day, and his successor, Harry Truman, swam in it frequently, even while wearing his glasses.
It is important to note that this pool was indoors, but most pools in the private sector these days are built outside. Because of inclement weather the use of safety pool covers are used. They are available for in ground and above ground pools. In case you may not know, an addition of a pool to a residence is usually a large investment, but it can also be an added incentive for someone to purchase the property if it goes up for sale. The value of homes has been declining, and an incentive such as a pool is definitely a plus when selling a home.
Because of the present economy, you can purchase items for your pool at discount prices and free shipping. There is no reason not to purchase all of the pool supplies you may need at one place. There is no sense in traveling all over town when you can save up to 54% on additions such as needed chemicals. Extend the use of your pool with a pool heater, which will allow you to use your outdoor pool earlier in the spring time and later in the fall.
Since your pool obviously does not have the care provided for the White House pools, you can provide similar care by purchasing products that will keep your pool safe and usable for an extend time during the summer.

Tim Pawlenty Drops Out - Governor Rick Perry Steps In

The vocal candidate Tim Pawlenty is no longer a candidate for President, as he expectedly stepped down from the race. During the Republican debates in Iowa, he verbally attacked Michelle Bachmann, but it seemed to backfire. It appears that the voters of the straw poll in Iowa decided to back his competitor Michelle Bachmann, as she narrowly won over Ron Paul. Tim Pawlenty was a distant third in the straw poll. He knew he needed a strong showing in the poll to be able to stay in the race, and he did not receive it.
Bachmann secured 4,823 votes, narrowly besting Paul, who had 4,671 votes. Pawlenty was chosen on 2,293 ballots.
On another twist Texas Governor Rick Perry now joins the race for President. I suspect now that three of the candidates will spar off next year against each other in verbal attacks to win the nomination. The three candidates I feel that will make it to the end are Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Perry. If a straw poll amongst both democratic and republican voters were to take place today, to include Barack Obama, it most likely would be a no contest with Barack Obama winning the poll and then winning re-election.
In my opinion on the other hand, Michelle Bachmann will be no match to the last three candidates to make it through next year. Also I have stated in the past that Newt Gingrich also has no chance for nomination, and if he gains the republican nomination, President Obama will defeat him. Mitt Romney has more baggage, and he may need his money to fight a battle against Rich Perry to gain the nomination. Rick Perry may finally get the nod to run against Barack Obama, but will the country be able to withstand another showing of a governor of Texas as president of the country. People soon forget as Rich Perry followed George W. Bush in the governors mansion. He does not have the speaking ability, and charisma of our present President Barack Obama.

Michelle Bachmann wins the IOWA Straw Poll

Saturday, August 13, 2011

AMES, Iowa | Sat Aug 13, 2011 7:49pm EDT
(Reuters) - Michele Bachmann narrowly won the Iowa straw poll of Republicans on Saturday in the first big test of the 2012 presidential campaign, as Texas Governor Rick Perry formally launched a White House bid that could reshape the race.
Bachmann, a representative from Minnesota, edged out Ron Paul, another representative, and rolled over the rest of the Republican field to capture the nonbinding Iowa mock election, a traditional early gauge of organizational strength in the state that holds the first 2012 nominating contest.
Bachmann won 4,823 votes to Paul's 4,671. Tim Pawlenty, who had focused on a strong showing in the straw poll to rescue his struggling campaign, finished a distant third with 2,293 votes in a bruising setback.

Tim Palenty Despiratly Tries to Stay in the Race through Direct Accusations

Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney appear to be the clear winners at the Iowa debates, even though Tim Pawlenty desperately tried to destroy each of these candidates by direct accusations. Instead of concentrating on what he is doing to gain the support of the party, he is trying to personally destroy 2 of the candidates that he feels most threatened for the Republican nomination. Still, it does appear that he was not successful. The straw poll to be taken soon in Iowa may be the straw that breaks Pawlenty's back.  Both Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney both survived his accusations and I believe that now it is a matter of time before Tim Pawlenty has to step out of the race.
Now here is an interesting fact. Even though Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney appear to lead the pack, many will say that Texas Governor Rick Perry won the night, and he wasn't even present and still has yet to announce his candidacy. The Governor has allot of influence, and unless he actually steps into the race, the Republicans will have very little chance to win the White house from Barack Obama. But will another Texas Governor take control of the White House like George W. Bush had done? The Iowa debates that are now history is proof that the candidates have a hard time speaking the truth and show that none of these candidates will have any ability to be bi-partisan when it comes to any legislation.
Both Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney, like every other candidate say that there will be 'no new taxes' under their watch as president. Anyone to claim such a statement is someone who is actually ignorant to the real problems of the country. Instead of saying 'no new taxes' in this moment of time, they should be concentrating on 'jobs'. They are not, and neither is Tim Pawlenty.

Did Osama bin Laden have Funeral Insurance?

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Yes, he did, bought and paid for by the taxpayers of the United States. A majority of people plan for today, but never look past tomorrow. This is not uncommon, but some prefer to ignore one of the definite tasks that we can take during our life time. This task would be to purchase funeral insurance. People may believe that they will live another 50 years and are not concerned right now, and some believe that they are wasting their time at this moment in their life if they were to take a 'time out' and checkout burial options that would be available now along with insurance to cover the costs.  You can bet that Osama bin Laden didn't need to use his insurance when he was killed, but instead, he received a burial at sea, at the cost of the U.S. taxpayers.
You or I may not be so lucky, that's if you believe that the U.S. Government or the taxpayers will pay for your burial. Of course they won't.
It should be very important to you  to look at plans for seniors at an early age. It doesn't make sense trying to acquire this type of insurance later in life when you may be presented a hardship just looking for insurance. Piece of mind needs to be achieved before you experience senior moments.
One thing you can do immediately though to to go online and checkout the SuddenlySEnior.com website, to also checkout and read the 'trusty' news about seniors. Read the news that seniors are interested in reading, including 222 more links to other senior websites.
Obviously there is a mound of information out on the web these days on most any subject, and insurance for seniors is no exception.

U.S. Stock markets take Major Hits because of S&P Downgrade of U.S. Credit Rating Decline

Monday, August 8, 2011

No President in modern time has become the center of nothing less than a political war, more than our present President, Barack Obama. President Obama entered the office of President with big dreams. He knew that reaching those dreams would require sacrifice, but not from a total sacrifice of the American people, except for the rich, which now seems to be a direct result of politicians not willing to compromise. They did not accomplish anything that would help the majority of people of the United States, but rather have directly helped the rich by guaranteeing them that they will not receive higher taxes. This was done at the expense of the middle class and the poor. With the S&P downgrading the U.S. credit rating from AAA to AA+, the politicians who because the cause of the downgrade now are directly responsible for what is happening in U.S. stocks. With a decline in U.S. stocks by some 600 points just today and over 500 points yesterday, the effects of this catastrophe can be felt around the world. The European and Asian markets felt the pinch, as these exchanges felt the pinch also. The U.S. markets has already erased all of their gains in 2011.
Even President Obama in a mid-day speech tried to starve off the decline but his efforts were fruitless.
To me, what is happening is no less than amazing, or shall I say embarrassing, disgusting, ridiculous, sorry, or whatever adjective can be used to explain how people feel. What Congress has done to the American people will be felt for a very long time. In 2012, the Congress will be doing this all over again, as they will again have to raise the debt ceiling. But the U.S. Congress seems to be fairly ignorant in the fact that if they continue to act like they did this year, regardless if a Republican or Democratic President holds office, the S&P will downgrade the U.S. credit rating again. The United States has not achieved this lower rating in almost 100 years.
President Obama will tell anyone that this is one of his low points in his Presidential career, but every blame goes directly the the U.S. Congress who now have one of the lowest approval ratings that any Congress has ever had. Yes, Democrats and Republicans are both to blame.

U.S. Credit Rating Downgraded by S&P from AAA to AA+

Sunday, August 7, 2011

Was there a toll to take for the U.S. Congress to take so long in approving the raise in the national debt ceiling. Without a doubt, as the United States has now taken a hit on it's credit rating, as approved by S&P(Standard & Poors) credit rating agency. The United States credit rating has now dropped from a perfect AAA status to AA+. So what are the reasons?

First, the United States proved to the people of the world, that their governing body has problems making correct decisions in a timely matter. The United States now is an embarrassment to the entire free world, as now they join others, like China in a downgrade of their credit rating. The United States held a triple-A rating for nearly 100 years, but on President Obama's watch, it was downgraded.

Second, what was actually approved which seemed to be on an emergency measure since it was approved at the last hour before default, is an amount thta the S&P believes is not substantial for the debts that the U.S. is trying to manage. By the end of 2012, the money will run out, and the United States will do this all over again, in an attempt to approve more money for spending, money that they do not have.

So what does this mean? Well thanks to our wonderful Congress, interest rates should now increase on many platforms. Safe money in the form of simple bonds, will not be considered safe any longer. It should have a domino effect on the U.S. people, but it may take time some time for everyone to realize that because the Congress failed to act on a timely basis, the people will have to bear the consequences.
Their decision not to act in a timely basis didn't affect them, but it affected the simple people. What they accomplished it to protect the rich, and made sure that they will not have their taxes raised, but at the same time, because of their failure to act on time, they have now imposed penalties on the middle and lower class in the form of higher interest rates.

SO who in Congress should be held accountable for the blame for what happened? I am sad to say that all members of Congress, whether they are Republican or Democrat are to blame. It doesn't make a difference on how they voted, but on what they voted on. May Republicans and Democrats alike voted for the bill, and also voted against. All of the Representatives from both Houses of Congress voted on a bill that was not substantial enough to prove to S&P and to the financial markets around the globe that they put in place a bill that would sustain the U.S. in the long haul. The bill doesn't even give the U.S. a chance to turn back their debts in a reasonable time. It also doesn't develop a 'credible' plan to tackle the nation's long-term debt.

It will only be a matter of time for the people of the U.S. to feel the effects of what they had done. Because of their poor handling of this bill, many of the representatives in Congress will now worry about the re-elections. Not only did the Democrats put their own President in a tough spot, they also pushed their chances for re-election to an all time low. Many of the representatives in Congress will not survive.

Excel in a Professional Career by Studying Online

Without an education today, it is just about impossible to get a job that gives you the piece of mind and the monetary rewards to take advantage of life's many pleasures. Everything you do, and everywhere you go, money seems to be the necessary evil to accomplish goals. Through education, goals can be achieved.

President Obama stated

"A world-class education is the single most important factor in determining not just whether our kids can compete for the best jobs but whether America can out-compete countries around the world. America's business leaders understand that when it comes to education, we need to up our game. That's why we’re working together to put an outstanding education within reach for every child"

-President Barack Obama, July 18, 2011

But many people, especially a majority of the middle class and lower class type of people, cannot afford to go to colleges, mainly because they have to work or because they just can't afford the cost. But if you are serious enough and can find the time, streamlined online courses may be the way for you.

The online schools are accredited and can provide you a degree that is recognized anywhere in the 50 states and around the world. Now you have options to study, and acquire a degree at your own pace, even if you have to continue to work. There is no need to quit work just to go to school.

People interested in education naturally vary to a wide degree. Online opportunities, such as online degree programs in fine arts,  photography, graphic design, accounting and finance, business management and computer science are just a few of the topics available. Studying and taking classes online is a very smart way to achieve your goals, as now you can work your education around your busy work schedule.

Now that you know there is a way for you to study and acquire a degree of your choice online, there are costs associated to online courses, but luckily, the costs are substantially cheaper then attending campuses such as Harvard or Yale, or even your local ABC school down the street. Sill, if you feel that you may not be able to afford working with an online school, then you can apply for financial aid. Believe it or not, there are several options, but it's best to check them all out before applying for financial aid. One place to go for Federal aid is http://studentaid2.ed.gov/gotocollege/collegefinder/advanced_find.asp.

The United States is a wonderful place to live and work. But it is also a place that requires a person to have self-confidence, and a desire to get ahead. With the costs of living and the availability of non-educated positions drastically falling, it is important to try to make the best of your life and continue with your education. Anyone can do it, with the will power and desire to get ahead. The perfect example of this would be your present President of the United States.

President Obama was brought up in a very modest upbringing. But he had the desire to do something with his life. He took the necessary steps and went forward with his life. So here he is, a very well educated man from Harvard University, the first black President of the United States. He did what it takes to get ahead, and he is a perfect example of proving that anyone, no matter of what race or color you are, can excel and live your dreams. Now at age 50, President Obama and the First Lady Michelle have achieved thier dream, living in the White House. Without an education, that would not have ever been possible

U.S. widely Disapproves of the United States Congress Accomplishments

Thursday, August 4, 2011

Our wonderful Congress, led by Republicans and Democrats alike have been spending all of their time trying to get the debt ceiling raised, even though no one has the slightest idea in how to curb the inflation, as the debt ceiling limit will rise again in another few years. So do these Congressmen think that they did a great job in their handling of the debt limit? Most Americans don't seem to think so, as 82% of Americans that took a New York Times/CBS News Poll now say that creating jobs should now take priority over cutting spending. But all the Republicans think about is cutting spending.
Over 80% of Americans do not approve of what the U.S. Congress is doing in Washington. These same U.S. Congressmen should now expect to have a hard time getting re-elected. If most American's think about the Congress as people who had taken the poll, I would definitely say that many Government jobs are in the brink of being lost. These Congressmen voted not just because they were doing what was best for the country, but because they were trying to gain political advantage. But what was actually accomplished with the debt limit will now backfire on the same people who held off and just thought of themselves and approved of such a ridiculous bill.
President Obama knows now he has a tougher road ahead since he now had to give in to the whims of the Conservatives and Tea Party advocates. What else can our wonderful Congress screw up. I guess you can take your pick. Whatever they take up next in debate, you can rest assured they when it comes time to vote again, they will screw that up too. To be a President with lawmakers like the ones in Washington today, there's no wonder why the President's power has been weakened. After the way the U.S. Congress has proven time and time again that they cannot make good decisions, the representatives will continue to stumble. The  partisan Congress will continue making bad decisions because they will continue to govern just to gain political advantage and not for the betterment of the American people.

Stocks plummet - Oil Prices down - People investing in Low Risk Stocks

Today was another bad day for the New York Stock exchange, as stocks plummeted 512 points. Where are the safeguards? The Dow tumbled 512 points to it's lowest point ever for 2011 below all gains for the entire year. So what's next, another recession? People seem to believe that the stimulus didn't work, according the the president of Euro pacific Capital, Peter Schiff.
The market is not in this declining position because of the stimulus, but because people seem to be behind the trigger. As soon as there is a bad word about something within the market, they pull stocks out. There seems to be a larger interest investing only in the short term. All they do is worry about things like the weak job market and anything that may affect their stock. They never think that how they handle their stock is what also affects the market in a domino effect. Investors are in a "total fear" mode according to Bob Doll, chief equity strategist at the world's largest money manager, BlackRock.
So now it's not the National Debt Ceiling issue we must worry about, but for ideas that people now fear for a global slowdown in lu of recent weak economic data. The unemployment rate is holding steady at 9.2%, even though creation of 75,000 jobs in july were reported. Oil prices are continuing to fall, as the cost of a barrel of oil is now down to $86.63. Major company shares, like GM, and European companies such as UKX, Germany's DAX and France's CAC  are also tumbling down between 3 and 4 percent.
U.S. investors are now seeking out low risk assets that include Treasuries and gold.
But with all the activity, the market is not solid enough for investors to take risks and invest as they have in the past.

Lawmakers Supporting the Republican plan on Debt Limit should be Ashamed

COMMENT and OPINION of the Editor of   'Obama in the White House blog'

I am quite disillusioned when it comes to what has happened with yesterdays vote, and with the partisan  politics in Washington. The good thing about yesterdays vote is that the debt ceiling has now been raised so the country could continue to function, but at the same time, the U.S.Government will now continue to borrow money when they do not have the ability to pay it back. Only the U.S. Government can borrow money that they cannot pay back, as citizens like you and me cannot.  So how much money has this Republican driven bill saved the country by passing this no less than ridiculous bill. The conservatives may argue and say that they have saved the country billions of dollars and yes, they may be right. But what they have done was accomplished at the expense of the less than rich, and the rich will feel no effect or at least the effects the middle class will feel. How does saving billions of dollars have any effect on the debt when the country owes trillions to countries around the world? The country will continue to borrow more than it pays back. We have now become hostage to a crisis that shows no end in site, and the deficit will continue to rise another couple of trillion dollars in the next few years. The lawmakers will continue to approve borrowing more money that they cannot pay back? How can this happen? One thing is for sure, only the politicians in Washington D.C. USA could ever pull such a stunt off, yet we continue to put these politicians in office, even after they continue to create havoc in government and punish the people who put them in office. Where is the savings? I sure will not see it. But others will see the cuts, cuts from their paychecks in the form of lost jobs. Again, the mastermind conservatives figured out how to get it done, but as long as it didn't hurt them and as long as the rich felt no more new taxes. This is the one bill that President Obama was hesitant to sign, but he knew he did not have a choice because the country was now facing default on it's financial responsibilities. Was he going to veto a bill on the very last day before default? Of course not. The U.S. credit rating has surprisingly not taken a hit, but the United States has been put on notice. If the U.S. cannot keep a bi-partisan agreement regarding future handling of the debt ceiling and show better handling if the national debt, then the United States will take a hit in the credit rating in the future. This reduced rating will be pushed down to the people, and this would grant me higher interest rates and higher cost in necessary products. Just a simple increase in interest rates for the middle and lower class people would spark another recession. This is how fragile we are regarding the national debt, and again, it is amazing that the United States continues to borrow more than it can pay back. At least to this point, the United States has not shown any ability to do what is right for the people. Thank you to all the Democrats and Republicans that truly supported and voted for this ridiculous bill!!!  This is just more proof that the Congressional leaders in Washington cannot work together and that the Democratic Process that is supposed to be put in place is actually hurting this country, instead of protecting it!

House Passes debt deal today - Vote 269 to 161 - Senate Votes Tomorrow

Monday, August 1, 2011

The House passed a debt a deal today with a vote of 269 to 161. That's the verdict for today.but  66 Republicans 95 Democrats voted against the bill. The whole process has been a mess. The Congressional leaders turned the issue of the national debt ceiling into almost catastrophic consequences if the country goes into default tomorrow.
The debt compromise is not perfect. The bill represents no new taxes. But if the Senate passes the bill tomorrow and hands it over to the President to sign, there will be at least two years before the country will have to re-focus on the issue once again. It should have never taken as long as it did to come to a compromise. But most likely the Senate will sign it, and as Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama says he will not vote for the debt deal.
People from both sides of the isle, Democrats and Republicans have nothing better to do than to blame the President for what has happened. It is hard for me to understand their thinking. The President was determined to allow Congress to come up with a bill to pass, and they still haven't done so, with just one more day for the Democratically controlled Senate to pass the bill. There is a chance that the majority of the House will think like Jeff Sessions. Then all bets will be off. Then we may see what the President is made of. If the Washington lawmakers are so determined to vote along party lines instead of what is best for the people, then President Obama will show his true colors and do what it takes to keep the government going. The United States will not go into default. The U.S. has always paid its bills and always will. Many people may be talking about President Obama now, but after the vote if it fails will now take control and use his Executive Power to make his own extension. But no matter what he does, people believe what he hasn't done to this point and what he may be about to do will warrant his impeachment. If the bill passes, within the next two years, the debt will rise another $3 trillion dollars to $17 trillion up to $20 trillion after 10 years if the trend continues.
The Republicans believe that taxes must be cut, not raised, but they have not offered an alternative other than say that to cut spending is the answer. They claim that the debt and the deficit is the problem, but they cannot and will not ever provide a solution. The actions of the last President, George W. Bush is proof of what the Republican party can and will do.
President Obama is now facing fierce criticism from his base, and his Republican challengers for the White House are now setting back watching the President take the criticism. President Obama may not win re-election for what he has done or refused to do, but let's just see how the next President handles all the issues of the country, especially if the next President happens to be a Republican president.

Congressional Leaders in Agreement for Debt Ceiling vote - Congress to vote within next 48 hours

In the video below, President Obama announces that the leaders in both the House and the Senate have come to an agreement for raising the debt ceiling. President Obama claims that he is not in full agreement to the legislation that now must be voted through both House and Senate before reaching the President's desk for signing to become law. If no agreement is passed by Tuesday, President Obama can then create emergency legislation to raise the debt ceiling, but most likely he will not have to create emergency legislation before the deadline.
