Possible Egypt Successor with an Interesting Past

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Mohamed Mustafa ElBaradei, born on June 17, 1942 was Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and inter-governmental organisation under the auspices of the United Nations, from December 1997 to November 2009. ElBaradei and the IAEA were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.

An educated man, he earned a Bachelor's degree in law from the University of Cairo in 1962, followed by a DEA degree in International Law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva and finally a PhD in International Law at the New York University School of Law in 1974. Presently, he is a current member of the International Law Association and the American Society of International Law. He was a three term Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency on December 1, 1997. His tenure has been marked by high profile non-proliferation issues including the inspections in Iraq preceeding the march 2003 invasion much to the dislike of the United States, headed by statement from Condalissa Rice, 66th Secretary of State serving President Bush, prior to Hilary Clinton. Now, he is siding with the protesters that want the present president to resign.
