Democrats and Republicans to Sit Next To Each Other During Obama's State of the Union Speech

Monday, January 24, 2011

As most know, tomorrow will bear the State of the Union Speech by President Barack Obama. One of the interesting things about it even before it starts, is that the Democrats and Republicans will sit together for the first time during the speech. Usually what you see, are Democrats sitting on one side of the Chamber, and Republicans sitting on the other side. Colorado Senator Mark Udall, first raised the idea to see Senators of each party sitting side by side for maybe what you might call different effects of responses by the Senators to points in Obama's speech. Normally, the Democrats would stand in unison, to support the President in an ovation that may last for a minute or so. This mixing of Senators may stop that display and can save time and less interruptions for the President. Likewise, the Republicans may stand in unison for ideas supported by the Republicans.
Truthfully, at this point, you can only assume that the Republicans and Democrats will act differently since they are sitting next to each other. Some say they will sit in their normal seats and will not sway from tradition that they supported for so many years, but even if they do, they may be likely sitting next to a fellow Senator from the opposite party. The Senators will now show that they can be bipartisan and sit together in front of a President during the State of the Union, but can they act just as civil while making laws in their prospective chambers?
