Former Secretary of State Colin Powell Comments on President Obama
Monday, January 24, 2011
From a man who supported 4 U.S. Presidents, and someone who worked for George W. Bush and then endorsed President Barack Obama in 2008 during the election, has been asked to grade the present Commander and Chief. Being President of the United States brings upon some of the bigest challenges of a man. It's one thing just trying to address some of his campaign promises, but in a statement to CNN, former Secretary of State Colin Power stated that President Obama has "got a way to go.".
At the same time that he said it, he credited Obama for stabilizing the economy, along with health care reform and his international recognition with other countries around the world. He is well liked amongst countries that would not ever care to communicate with either Bush President.
Colin Powell expects President Obama to deliver a strong economic message when he speaks Tuesday night during the State of the Union Address. It is extremely important this time around, because as Powell puts it, the eletorate was expencting that focus when Obama assumed office.
He acknowledged President Obama's hard work concering the issue of the employment, which in his mind is the number one issue in America today. As he mentioned the fact, he stated the following..
"I think he's working very hard on the issue of unemployment, which I think is the major problem facing America right now, and I think, and I hope, this will be the centerpiece of the State of the Union speech," Powell told CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley. "We didn't elect 'Superman', we elected a human being."
He also believes that funding should be with what works, for example, entitlement problems like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
At the same time, he fell short in giving President Obama a letter grade for his service as President the first two years, and he really cannot tell where the country will be in July." Much of this may have to do with bi-partisan efforts between the House and the Senate.
