Barack Obama... The Economic President, or The Depression President?

Monday, February 23, 2009

Ok, now the the votes are in, President Obama asked for it. Does anyone remember how Obama's Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton before teaming up with Obama made the statement "The sky will open. The lights will come down. Celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect!"It was just outward sarcasm by Hillary, as Obama claimed that it was evidence of her being a creature of Washington. But was Hillary correct? Now maybe history, the last 30 days of history, can prove her to be right.
During his campaign, President Obama's ideology was to bring the country's two political parties together. But  after putting the policies in place, especially the Economic Stimulus Plan, the two political parties could not be more divided. So now Washington is very divided, and depending who you may talk to, Washington could never been more further divided. Most Presidents promise bipartisanship in Washington, but they soon find out that it is almost impossible to achieve. Even President Clinton critiqued change in Washington, buy saying "The Washington of George Bush is the same Washington of Barack Obama. The promise of bipartisanship and hope in Washington is difficult to actually achieve." Even former President Clinton believed in the end of big government just 13 years ago, but President Obama will signal its return most likely in his speech to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday.
Most everyone in Washington believes that President Obama has taken most bold actions in his first 30 days in office, but he inherited the problems of George Bush, and will now be known in history as the Economy President, or the Recession President. Whatever they may call him, he as so much time left in his first term alone, to be called many other things. Many books should prevail on President Obamas "First 100 days".
