New Heads to run the Food and Drug Administration

In his weekly radio address, President Obama highlights the importance of having safe food available to the people of the United States. He outlines the challenges of his newly elected team to work in tandem to manage the Food and Drug Administration. Leading the way, Dr. Margaret Hamburg, along with Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, who becomes the FDA's principal deputy commissioner. As a parent, President Obama has a personal stake in the need for safe foods for his wife and children. He states that his children must be kept safe from foods that can be contaminated, and he put together a team to make sure that suppliers of the food chain be held accountable for the foods that they produce and distribute.
