Education Secretary and Interior Secretary Posts Filled..
Tuesday, December 16, 2008
Yesterday was a big day for Barack Obama as he continues to elect people to fill important posts in the government. He also picked Arne Duncan (pictured left) as the education secretary and for interior secretary, he picked Senator Ken Salazar(pictured right). As in the past, President-Elect Obama has chosen another candidate from the Chicago area, as Duncan has been acting head of the Chicago pubic school system since 2001. He also worked to create educational opportunites for 6 years for inner-city students in Chicago. Also a Harvard Law graduate, he has been seen playing basketball with Obama during the election and on election day.
Ken Salazar from the state of Colorado, is also a first term senator who was mainly involved in public land and energy resources issues during this brief time in the Senate. With him leaving the Senate, some may think that the balance of power in the Senate may be jeopardized. Since there is a Democratic Governor in Colorado named Bill Ritter at this time, you can be sure that Ritter would name a Democratic replacement. Now with these latest announcements Barack Obama now has completed his environment and energy team.
