Waisted Stimulus Money
Friday, June 12, 2009
Has anyone heard of the John Murtha Johnstown Cambria county airport. An average of 20 people a day come to fly in and out of the airport. It is subsidized by the government. The government provides $100 dollars per passenger which means that your taxpayer money pays just as much for each flight as the passengers do. It sports a reinforced runway, a new terminal. Over the last 10 years, Congressman John Murtha was able to steer at least $150 million dollars of taxpayer money to the airport.
What's so great about this airport anyway? Well, it's big enough to land any airplane in America.
The Cost?
It sports a $7 Million dollar air traffic control tower, a $14 Million dollar hanger, and last but not least, an $18 Million dollar runway. All this for an average of 20 passengers per day. Last but not least, the airport is to receive $800,000 in Federal Stimulus money to repave an alternate runway.
