The Pentagon - Thinking must Change to address present Wars and Cyber Attacks
Monday, February 1, 2010
It took almost 25 years, but the United States finally will replace the planning style of fighting. Presently the present style is how the United States is presently manuvoring 2 wars. But now the plan will be to protect "U.S. interests around the world from a range of threats, from terrorism to cyber attacks" according to (CNN) Washington. As in the present like in the past, determining the forces needed depended soley on the regional conflicts, which would then determine what the size, shape or evaluation of U.S. forces should be. In place is a Quadrennial Defense Review, and it will be reviewed on the same day that the Pentagon presents its budget. One item that will be made top priority will be the use of helicopters that will be used in the rugged terrain in Afghanistan. During the final 3 years of President Obamas first term in office, he will be concentrating his war efforts in Afghanistan.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates will be asking for $708 billion, which will include finding for the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars, approximately $44 billion more than the 2010 budget of $664 billion. This will also help fund the use of special forces troops used in both wars. The funding will help the U.S. defend against Cyber attacks, and to continue past cyber issues that originated in China.
