75 Days until Inauguration Day - January 20, 2009
Here is an interesting fact. There is a man who ran for President of the United States in 1789. Who was he running against? He was running against George Washington, the 1st President of the United States. So why then is he important? I felt that it would be nice to know that he had our present president's first name, and our last Democratic President's last name. But what is striking about all of that is that he ran in a party called 'The Democratic-Republican' party. Wow, now that's a twist. Also an interesting fact, George Washington ran against someone from his own party, the Federalist party named John Adams, and won the presidency with only 69 electoral votes, verses John Adams total of 34. By the way, every party was called 'Federalist', except that of George Clinton. George was the 'maverick' back in 1789. If George was running today, you can bet that he wouldn't be running against anyone with that party name, especially seeing how opposite they are from each other now. But at least he did have an eye for the future. Maybe the Democratic and Republican party was born because of him.
