Senator Wendy Davis will Run for Texas Governor

Friday, October 4, 2013

The 2014 campaign for governor of Texas looks to be interesting, now that one specific Fort Worth born democrat by the name of Wendy Davis is now running to replace the outgoing Republican governor.
She started as a 19-year-old divorced mother, then TCU graduate, then to a lawyer, then to a guberntorial candidate from a State Senator. Thirty years ago, she graduated from Richland High School in Texas, and now returned to kick off her bid to become Texas' 48th governor.
Recently, she gained national fame and notoriety, as she filibustered in a speech that lasted throughtout the night. Her goal at the time, was to revent a comprehensive abortion bill from passing. Now, as she has higher goals to gain power within a Republican controlled state, she has an uphill battle since the last Democrat to hold the governor's seat was held by Ann Richards back in 1995.
So who may be running against her from the Republican side? The names known at this time are Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot and former Republican Party Chairman Tom Pauken. They are the two main GOP candidates. Of course, the Republicans say that she doesn't have a chance to win the state house. Many of the Republicans say that they are glad that she is in the race, as she is a one issue candidate and nothing more. Others are more fearful of her, noting her fast popularity when she filibusted. They also are aware of the fact that if she is successful in the bid for the State House, most likely the state can turn more 'blue' then they would like. President Obama himself said that someday soon, Texas will run from being a 'Red State' to a 'Blue State' very soon.
Another issue that is now facing the Republicans square in the face would be the fact that since they have been so unpopular on many state issues throughout the country. Now that the Republicans have become the main reason why the government is now in a shoutdown mode, there are more and more reasons why another Democratic President is most likely in 2016. On November 9th, Wendy's run will become official as she will then register for the election to become governor.  The primary election to determine the single Democatic and Republican candidates begins next year.
