South Africa is in a happy state of mind at the moment at least. Nelson Mandela appears to be recuperating in a hospital, and has just celebrated his 95th birthday in a Pretoria hospital. Nelson Mandela, one of the famous icons of modern History, organized non-violence protest action against apartheid in South Africa. He was imprisoned for 27 years, first on
Robben Island and later in
Pollsmoor Prison and then
Victor Verster Prison. He was released in 1990, after which he became South Africa’s president.
Mandela changed people especially the indigenous Africans by convincing the government to abolish the apartheid laws. This allowed equal things for all races of people in Africa. Mandela changed the way the world thinks about different races being treated by changing the Apartheid laws when he became president of South Africa in 1994.
