Most everyone in the world who despise terrorism are overjoyed to find out that Osama bin Laden is now dead. But the terrorist organization known as Al Qaeda, may already have a new leader. His name is Ayman al-Aawahiri (Abu Muhammad Rabaie al-Zawahiri). Originally, he was Bin Laden's personal adviser and physician, and became a senior member of the al-Qaeda
shura council. He was known as bin Laden's "lieutenant". It has been stated that he was the "real brains" of al-Qaeda. Because of bin Laden's death, as of May 2, 2011, he is assumed to be the sole figurehead of al-Qaeda. He is a man of many names, such as Abu Fatima, Muhammad Ibrahim, Abu Abdallah, Abu al-Mu'iz, The Doctor, The Teacher, Nur, Ustaz, Abu Mohammed Nur al-Deen, Abdel Muaz (Abdel Moez, Abdel Muez).
On October 10, 2001, al-Zawahiri appeared on the initial list of the U.S.
Federal Bureau of Investigation's top 22
Most Wanted Terrorists, which was released to the public by
U.S. President George W. Bush. In early November 2001, the
Taliban government announced they were bestowing official Afghan
citizenship on him, as well as Bin Laden,
Mohammed Atef,
Saif al-Adl, and Shaykh
Asim Abdulrahman. On January 13, 2006, the
Central Intelligence Agency launched an
airstrike on Damadola, a Pakistani village near the Afghan border, where they believed al-Zawahiri was located. The airstrike was supposed to have killed al-Zawahiri and was thus reported in international news the following days. He is definitely still very much alive.
